Sephora's End of Summer Sale!

Sephora.com End of Summer Sale!

Hello, my lovelies! I spent all day yesterday having a somewhat relaxing day alone in the house (with my dad), because my mom took my sisters to the hairdresser to get their hair done... (Without me!) While that irked me endlessly, I tried to make the best of my time alone and bored by painting my nails (now they're white with little black polka dots) and doing my hair (tangle free!).

When I wasn't doing these things, I was browsing Sephora's website (on an old MacBook since I killed my laptop a few nights ago), because they're having the ultimate End of Summer Sale! Hundreds of makeup, skincare, and bath/body beauty products are on sale for up to 65% off online!

Of course, I'll have to take advantage of this offer and buy some products that I ran out of (or am dangerously low on) this summer for Back to School. I cannot believe the first day of school is just a few days away! It seems like just yesterday it was June and I was writing about Korres Guava Lip Butter. Believe it or not, this is Aisles of Beauty's 50th Post! Can you believe it? I'd launch some sort of major giveaway, but I'm saving that for the 100th post... If I did my math correctly that should be... In October. Can't wait!

So head on over to sephora.com and check out all the fabulous products they have on sale!

Sephora Collection Color Daze Blockbuster

Sephora Collection Color Daze Blockbuster
Hello, my lovelies! Because I am such a major clutz, I spilled water all over my three year old MacBook, and now it is dead. For the next few weeks I'm stuck using old macs around the house (rather than my personal laptop with my entire life in its hard drive).

Of course, that won't stop me from blogging! I'm trying to stay positive about this whole experience... So on a happier note, as a Sephora Beauty Insider, I thought I'd alert you to save the cash in your piggy banks for this October, when the 2012 Sephora Collection Color Daze Blockbuster is released to the public!

What is the Sephora Collection Color Daze Blockbuster, you ask? This is the ultimate makeup kit for beauty addicts of all ages. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, you'll love this limited edition makeup palette!

I don't think I'm supposed to give too much away... So I'll just say this Hollywood Style palette includes waterproof eyeshadows, longwear cream eyeliners, lip glosses, blushes, 6 multi functional creams for eyes/lips/cheeks, AND SO MUCH MORE. It's compact, convenient when traveling, and can do an extreme variety of looks!

This $370 value is yours for $49.50. Since I most recently murdered my laptop, the majority of my piggy bank cash will go towards buying a new computer. BUT if I happen to come across $50 lying around, you know what my next purchase will be! Well, right after I buy a new concealer... My goal is to get one before school starts in 5 days (yikes!).

So let me know if you're excited about the Sephora Collection Color Daze Blockbuster, and keep reading the blog! (The more views I get, the more revenue my blog makes, and the closer I am to getting that new Macbook Pro! No pressure...)

How to Create Marble Nails

I made a collage of all types of marble nail looks!
Hello, my lovelies! In addition to researching great DIY Spa Ideas, my youngest sister Ava learned how to create Marble Nails. Usually, I don't pay much attention to the latest nail trends, because I have the terrible habit of biting my nails, and I've never really been able to do much with my nails because of that. But Ava has long, gorgeous nails, and so I took pictures of her attempting Marble Nails, and made a photo tutorial for you so you can try it too!

You will need: a small bowl, 2-3 nail polish colors, tape, and tissues/paper towels.

*** We only tried this with two nails/one at a time. The first nail is the one you see in the pictures. The second time didn't turn out so well, so we came to the conclusion you have to use fresh water/paint every time. Maybe you can dip multiple nails in at one time, but we're not sure. So let us know if you find out more!

Urban Decay Ocho Loco 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set

A glance at the Urban Decay Email I received...
Hello, my lovelies! This morning I received an email from Urban Decay promoting it's new limited edition Ocho Loco 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set. This is a package of 8 Urban Decay eyeliner pencils, and four of them are brand new colors.

What really caught my eye about this limited edition set was its price. The entire pack costs $59! That's pretty much $60 for a couple of eyeliner pencils! Yikes!

And that got me thinking, is it worth the price? When it comes to makeup, there are some things you should definitely invest in, like foundation and concealer... But there are other things you can go cheap on, like mascara and lipgloss... So where does eyeliner fall?

I did some research on it, and it seems the public is split 50/50 on whether or not to save or splurge on eyeliner. Some are saying they're all pretty much the same, and you can get a great $3 eyeliner at the drugstore. Others are saying department store brands last longer, are easier sharpened, and are softer/smoother on the skin, therefore worth the splurge. Well, I have no idea what to think.

So what do you think? Leave your thoughts in the comments or send me an email (aislesofbeauty@gmail.com). The Urban Decay Ocho Loco 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set sure looks tempting, but is it worth it? Should I buy it? Hmmmm... Thought provoking....

DIY Spa Ideas

My youngest sister Ava's DIY Spa

Hello, my lovelies! So Sunday night my youngest sister Ava wanted to test out some spa do-it-yourself's she found online. And since my mom is on a ridiculous "nature food" health kick, our refrigerator is full of all types of fruits and vegetables. Ava got busy and treated me to a lovely spa evening!

I decided to bring my notebook and take notes and pictures during the evening, so I could document everything Ava learned. She taught me a lot of great DIY Spa Ideas, and so now I'm sharing them with you!

Water with lemon
For a most professional and relaxing spa, Ava provided glasses of water with lemon slices. Not only did it look fabulous, it tasted pretty good too. Bonus: lemon water is packed with Vitamin C, can reduce acne, wrinkles, and cleanses your skin from the inside, giving you a healthy glow!

Ava's Spa Treatment began with Heat Therapy. In a small bowl filled with steamy water were hot wash cloths, which we gently rung out and placed on our faces. Then we could lie down and relax with the hot towels resting from the forehead to our noses (so we still had room to breath deeply through our mouths).

Heat relaxes the muscles, and you'd be surprised how stressed the muscles in your face are from so much usage. This is very calming and relaxing, and so simple!

Oatmeal Facial
Oatmeal has so many uses besides eating it for breakfast. It's a phenomenal skincare ingredient! You can use oatmeal to treat acne, soothe the skin from rashes and poison ivy, and use as a facial scrub! It can help cleanse the pores and soften your skin!

Egg whites are full of protein, vitamins, and minerals. Egg whites have the potential to reduce wrinkles, tighten skin, give a deep cleansing to the pores, and leave your skin soft and supple!

What happens when you combine the two? Ava mixed oatmeal, warm water, and egg whites to create a fantastic deep cleansing, skin softening Oatmeal Facial. And all you need are those three ingredients and a mixing bowl! We applied spoonfuls to a damp washcloth, then massaged that cloth all over our face and relaxed for 6 - 8 minutes. Once the mask starts to dry, or if it feels tight on your face, just rinse it off and feel the softening effects on your skin!

Fresh cucumber slices
Cucumber slices on the eyes can reduce puffiness and erase fatigue. Its cooling effects do wonders for the skin, and cucumbers can soften the skin and improve your complexion. Did you know you can also use cucumbers to treat sunburn? We took some Cucumber Slices and laid them on our eyes as we let our Oatmeal Facials rest on our faces. It was a rejuvenating experience!

At the end of the spa night, I have to say, I was glowing. Next time you want a relaxing spa day, try these DIY Spa Ideas, and let me know what you think! And do you have any of your own DIY Spa Ideas to share? Tell me all about them!

Ask Autumn: What is Setting Powder?

Hello, my lovelies! Lately readers have been asking me a lot of beauty related questions, and I decided to answer them on the blog on the new Ask Autumn feature! When you ask a question, I'll answer it on Ask Autumn.

Today's Question: In a lot of tutorials I see, I'm told to put setting powder on my face at the end of the look. What is setting powder? What is it used for? How do I use it?
-- Raina

My Answer: Setting Powder, also known as finishing powder, is used to complete a makeup look. We use setting powder to make our makeup last longer, and reduce oiliness on the face. It absorbs sweat and oils on your face so the makeup doesn't come off, and that in turn takes away shine on your face, making it ideal for oily skin types. Setting powder provides an "airbrushed finish" and gives your skin a natural, matte glow. It softens the features on your face and reduces fine lines' appearances.

Setting powder comes in two forms: loose powder and compact powder. Loose powder comes in a little jar and is the kind of powder that spills. Use a large, fluffy makeup brush to apply this powder. Compact powder comes in a little case, and can't spill. You can use either a brush or a sponge/powderpuff to apply this powder.

I have dry combination skin, so I don't use setting powder to absorb oils on my face. I use it to give my skin an airbrushed finish. My favorite setting powder right now is the BareMinerals Tinted Mineral Veil. This fantastic loose powder (for $20) sets my makeup and softens my features. The slight tint prevents my face from looking ghostly, and a little goes a long way! I've been using it for months, it's money well spent!

Do you use setting powder? What brands do you like? Let me know in the comments or shoot me an email! And if you have questions you'd like to be answered in Ask Autumn, send them in to aislesofbeauty@gmail.com!

L'Oréal Paris USA 2012 Hair Color Census Results are IN!

I'm a brunette... But sometimes people think it's black!
Hello, my lovelies! Friday was a busy day for me; I woke up early to complete a NJHS Service Job at my school, and then ran some errands with my mother (who, thanks to my best friend's mom, is on some type of vegetable juicing health kick), and finally washed my face, redid my makeup, and had a little Photo Booth Photoshoot!

This picture was taken during my special photoshoot, where I let my natural dark brown curls out in the open. But that's not the reason I'm blogging about hair.

L'Oréal Paris USA recently released the results of their 2012 Facebook Hair Color Census! L'Oréal Paris USA polled 1000 Facebook followers to discover how your personality and your hair color relate. The census polled blondes, brunettes, and redheads. Facebook let readers download the result pages, so here are the stats about hair color!

I have to say, as a brunette, I think the Census was spot on! Let me know what you think about L'Oréal's Census!

Clinique Chubby Sticks: Chubby Stick Mix

Clinique Chubby Sticks for Lips
Hello, my lovelies! Before you get excited, no, this is not a review for the widespread phenomenon called Clinique Chubby Sticks. I haven't been able to get my hands on one to try out and review!

If you haven't heard of Clinique Chubby Sticks, you live under a rock. Clinique's newest product, designed for the lips, provides "...do-gooders like mango and shea butters. Just what dry delicate lips need to feel comfortable and smooth." In 16 shades and 1600 advertisements {just a rough estimate}, this new spin on lipstick is taking the makeup and beauty world by storm.

So if I'm not reviewing it, why am I blogging about this product, you ask? I receive Clinique's Newsletter, and today it introduced a new color mixing feature on its website.

A screenshot of my color mix on the Chubby Sticks Color Mixer!
If you visit this page, you'll be taken to the Clinique Chubby Sticks Color Mixing Simulation. Choose one of three lip shapes, then choose your favorite three Chubby Stick colors to create a new, one of a kind shade!

I have to say, this is a cute little feature and a smart way to advertise the Clinique Chubby Sticks. It worked so well, I might just have to buy myself one or two––Ok one, because they're $16! That's a lot for a lipstick crayon!

Is it worth it? I guess I'll find out when I go shopping sometime next week. I still have to buy my necessities for Back to School, since BTSS didn't work so well. (But the one shirt I bought at H&M is looking great, I'm wearing it right now!)

In the Classroom: Skincare (Part Three)

My personal roundup of skincare products!
Hello, my lovelies! This is the third and final piece of the In the Classroom: Skincare series. You've learned all about the science of your pores, the Beauty Sectors of the Face, and with the help of the Aisles of Beauty Skin Type Chart, you've found your skin type!

Woah, that's a lot! But all of it was in preparation for the big finale. It's time to take everything you learned and design a beauty routine perfect for YOU!

Remember when I said how personalized skincare is? It depends on your skin type, allergies, preferences to smell and texture, and pricing is a biggie, too. At this point, deciding what products to use is completely up to you, and what you know is perfect for your skin. It's a trial and error process; you may find one product that's great, and another that isn't so hot. From here on, the only thing I can do is let you know what kinds of products you should be looking for. I'm talking about your Beauty Routine. Your Beauty Routine is designed specifically and exclusively for YOU, based on your schedule and all the other factors I listed earlier.

You should wash and moisturize your face every morning and every night for the healthiest, most glowing skin possible. Here's a basic guideline of how your beauty routine should work in the AM and in the PM.

Morning: Wash your face with a gentle facial cleanser. Moisturize with face lotion.
Most recently, I've been using Aveeno Ultra Calming Foaming Facial Cleanser and Clarins Paris Multi-Active Jour. My mom got Multi-Active Jour for me, so I'm not sure where you can find it.

Evening: Wash your face with either the same facial cleanser or a slightly stronger one (your choice). Use toner to cleanse away chlorine and clean out pores. Moisturize with long lasting lotion.
I use Proactiv's Three Step System every few days for a stronger cleansing. The three step system comes with a cleanser, toner, and acne cream, so this spring/summer I've been using that kit's toner. I moisturize with St. Ives Intensive Healing Lotion. I like to wear it to bed because even though it works wonders, it smells like bananas. O_o

Let's review! Here's your shopping list:

  1. Facial Cleanser (two if you want to change between AM and PM)
  2. Toner
  3. Face Lotion
When buying these products, think about your skin type. A person with dry skin would want to use a higher power moisturizer than someone with oily skin, and if you have sensitive skin, be VERY careful when buying toner. Opt for a toner without alcohol for the sake of your face. And combination skin people! You may have to buy multiple cleansers and lotions to take care of your dry areas and oily areas. Some reputable companies that are fantastic with skincare are: Aveeno, CetaphilClarins, Clean and Clear, Clinique, and Neutrogena. There are tons more to try out, ask the staff of different stores and companies for advice; they'll be more than happy to help!

It's been a pleasure educating you all on the basics of skincare! Take my advice and go create your perfect beauty routine! What products do you use? What brands are your favorite? Leave it in the comments or let me know!

In the Classroom: Skincare (Part Two)

The Beauty Sectors of the Face.
Hello, my lovelies! I'm feeling much better today... I slept in and had some breakfast, cleaned my room, put my laptop on my desk, and I've spent a solid two hours so far of pure Aisles of Beauty work all business-like. I've been making minor site fixes, working on posts, and (SPOILER ALERT) there might be a collaboration of some sort in the near future... Feel free to let the mystery drive you crazy. :)

If you haven't already read Part One of the In the Classroom: Skincare series, I recommend reading that first. Now let's get started!

The first part of today's lesson is about the Beauty Sectors of the Face. Look at the picture to your left. There are four main named sections on the face that we refer to when talking about skincare.

  • The T Zone - refers to forehead down to the tip of the nose, creating a T shape.
  • The Eye Area - refers to the skin surrounding the eyes.
  • The S Zone - refers to the cheeks.
  • The O Zone - refers the chin and the area around the mouth.

You'll need to think about the Beauty Sectors of YOUR Face to determine your skin type. Once you know your skin type, you'll finally be able to to pinpoint the best products for you!

There are 5 main skin types: normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive. Using the Official Aisles of Beauty Skin Type Chart, find which of the 5 main skin types sounds most like your face! Just click on the chart to enlarge it.

Once you determine your skin type, come back tomorrow for Part Three!

In the Classroom: Skincare

Taking care of her skin!
Hello, my lovelies! I have a terrible case of the sniffles, with a sore throat as well. So my busy week's events are out, but luckily for you, that leaves me plenty of time to bulk up on posts! When writing this post, I had so much to say, I had to break it into parts. And sorry about missing yesterday, I was too sick to even look at my computer. So, introducing... In the Classroom: Skincare!

Starting at age 10, and for the rest of your life, taking care of your skin becomes a priority. So it'd only make sense to explain the basic science of your skin; more specifically, your pores.

Your pores are tiny holes in the skin that allow natural oils created under the skin to reach the surface and keep your skin soft and supple.

But often, we don't think of pores that way. We think of them as the reason for blackheads and acne. TVs advertise pore strips and cleansers that minimize your pores and give you flawless skin. Pores aren't a bad thing, as long as you know what you're doing.

Pores can get clogged with dirt, oils, and makeup that you put on the surface of your skin. This blocks the natural oils that are made in your body from coming out to lubricate your skin. Remember? That's the pores job. That's when breakouts start; acne and blackheads.

Keeping the breakouts away is easy; all you have to do is take care of your skin. Just wash your face, and make sure you wash away the dirt, oils, and makeup so they don't clog your pores. Simple as this task is, this is where all the confusion begins. Truth be told, there are dozens of ways to cleanse your skin and keep it healthy.

It's a personalized matter; skincare is different for every person. If you have dry skin vs. oily skin, tough skin vs. sensitive skin, how much time you have in your schedule, allergies, preferences to smells and textures... Get the point? You've got the science of your skin down, but there's still a whole world to learn.

Come back for Part Two!

This has been Part One of In the Classroom: Skincare. Stay beautiful!

BTSS @ Macy's

This one looks all fancy because I put it on Instagram ;)
Hello, my lovelies! Yes, yes, I know. I might have accidentally taken another break right after the post saying I had taken a little break.

I've actually been quite busy to make up for my uneventful summer. I had a sleepover on Wednesday, and then today I had to tag along in dropping my father off at the airport, and then I went to another friend's house to spend the afternoon, and now I'm here. And tomorrow I will most likely be going to another sleepover, and then every day this week I have National Junior Honor Society Service Hours to take care of, and then that weekend I will mostly likely be having a sleepover with yet ANOTHER one of my friends... And possibly crashing a movie set (they're filming Paranoia in my area! LIAM HEMSWORTH! AAAHHH!)

Could that be all, you ask? Of course not! Because I haven't even told you about Back to School Saturday, and how the only thing I ended up purchasing was a $15 boyfriend shirt at H&M, a magazine, and a chocolate bar with almonds. So I have arrange a shopping trip with yet another group of friends. PLUS, I simply must find new shoes before school... My only pair at the moment is a set of bright green flip flops with pink detailing, meant to be worn as pool shoes.

I'm a busy, busy girl! But I found the time to show you a few of the pictures I took when trying on (and certainly not buying) dresses in the Juniors section at Macy's on BTSS. I was with two great friends of mine, Maureen and Margaret. Check them out! And don't worry, even though I have a hectic schedule these last few weeks of summer, I will most certainly make time for you. My viewers have bumped back up!

Beauty Blogs and Mood Rings...

Right now? I'm green, but a little while ago I was teal...
Hello, my lovelies! I took an unexpected couple of days off to kind of just think and reconnect with myself. To be honest I've been feeling a little uninspired because I'm in one of those "viewer ruts," where you don't have as many readers as you usually do... But I'm going to continue writing anyway because I was just struck with inspiration. I stumbled across a blog written by another teenager in the UK named Isla. Her blog is called "The November Edition," and I absolutely adore it! After reading a few of her posts, I realized how much I love beauty blogging, and it's not worth stopping because I have slightly less viewers than normal. It's temporary, and my views will lift right back up soon enough.

For some odd reason, this whole thing reminded me of mood rings. So I checked out a color chart... I always thought mood ring color charts were universal... But yellow on one ring could be inspired, while another is nervous. Hmm, guess you learn something new everyday... :)

P.S. How come when I hit preview to proofread my post... All my adds turned up in Spanish?

Before I Die...

Images in this post are from candychang.com
Hello, my lovelies! Have I ever mentioned how much I love Stumble Upon? I swear, I discover all types of new and exciting web pages using this amazing site AND app.

One of the websites I stumbled upon today was candychang.com. This website is the Mecca of inspiring projects, events, and ideas. It's mission is to spur people into living life to the fullest. I highly recommend checking it out!

The specific page I stumbled upon was Candy Chang's Before I Die Project. The mission was to build chalkboards all around the world with the message "Before I Die..." and then dozens of slots for people to write what they want to do before they die. It caught my eye because the same chalkboard is in front of Garage at the mall, and my pal Neeyah jumped on my back so she could write "Meet Chris Brown" on one of the higher slots.

What are the odds of seeing this twice? I think fate is trying to give me a message.
Before I die... What do I want to do? To see? Life is about... Living life to its fullest potential, is it not? What do I want to accomplish?

This is one of those really thought provoking posts... Think about it, and let me know in the comments, or email me about it.

Fashion: Trending in 1969

All photos provided by MissMoss.co.za
Hello, my lovelies! This morning I came across the most interesting blog called Miss Moss, which is more of a "lifestyle blog," if you will.

In the Fashion and Vintage section, though, I found an extremely eye opening post with pictures of the trends from 1969. While some outfits looks rather ridiculous, a lot of them looked eerily similar to the trends we're wearing today. Loud prints, layers, bright colors, a multitude of textures... It got me thinking about how fashion is "recycled." It was once quoted "fashion is a form of ugliness so severe, we must change it every six months." Well said.

Seems like the 60s are back. Check out these pictures I found on http://www.missmoss.co.za/2011/04/20/high-school-fashions-1969/ and check out her blog for more captivating posts on all things fashion, vintage, food, and everything else lifestyle blogging! Stay beautiful!

Universal Beauty: Mexico

Symbol on the Mexican Flag
Hola, my lovelies! A few days ago, I got the wonderful opportunity to talk to one of Aisles of Beauty's most loyal readers: Summer from Mexico.

Summer, who is 11 years old, moved to Mexico from the states last year. She is part of the inspiration for Universal Beauty, and is therefore the first reader I thought to interview. She wrote a fantastic journal entry for all of you to read about the fashion and beauty scene in Mexico City.

With our new PDF sharing technology, you can read Summer's journal entry right here on the post! Just read, and scroll down over the entry to read the next page. You can also zoom in and out to make the text bigger and smaller. Enjoy!

And remember, if you want to be a part of Universal Beauty too, just email Aisles of Beauty! Aislesofbeauty@gmail.com with subject Universal Beauty. Include your name, age, where you're from, and why you think your entry would be interesting and unique.

NEW FEATURE: Universal Beauty

Beauty is Universal - Let's Share It!
Hello, my lovelies! Lately I've noticed Aisles of Beauty is getting an exceptional number of views from all around the world. People in Russia, Mexico, Switzerland, Greece, Sweden, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada have been reading Aisles of Beauty just this week alone.

Is that not amazing? It made me realize how big our world actually is, and how something as simple as makeup and fashion can connect us. I want all of our international readers to feel included and connected.

That's why I went to work creating a new Aisles of Beauty feature called Universal Beauty. Universal Beauty is a way for our international readers to share what fashion and beauty is like where they are from. Our international readers, and even readers from the states can connect and share what makes their country, state, or city unique. This is an amazing learning opportunity for everyone; let's wish Universal Beauty success!

Wherever you are from, send Aisles of Beauty an email! Just email aislesofbeauty@gmail.com with the subject Universal Beauty. Tell me your name, age, where you're from, and what makes fashion and beauty where you are unique. Hopefully I can interview you via the web, and your story can be featured in Universal Beauty! Keep checking back for Universal Beauty updates!

Wherever you're from, stay beautiful!
