Quiz: What's Your Holiday Style?

Hello, my lovelies! I was thinking about how routine Aisles of Beauty seems lately, and I wanted to mix things up a little bit, you know? How about November Surprise #3? I created a cute little quiz for you lovelies to try out, and you can find out what your Holiday Style is! Just answer the questions, and before you hit submit, write down a, b, c, or d for each question on a sticky note. Then hit submit and scroll below to see where your answers match!  Now remember, this is my first try at a quiz, so bare with me!

Mostly A's
Mostly A's - Your holiday style is chill. You prefer to relax at home then be a part of all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Festive winter sweaters paired with comfy jeans are a perfect look for you! You can rock a soft eye, perhaps pastel eyeshadow, flushed cheeks, and peach or pink lip. There will be a lot of pinks and peaches in your makeup. If you want to spice up the look, contour with a bronzer for a stronger face with the soft features.

Mostly B's
Mostly B's - Your holiday style is carefree. You know how to make any occasion a fun time! Loud, unique colors and prints are perfect for you! Tuck a plain top into a funky skirt, and accessorize with some chunky fun jewelry! A little cat liner on the eyes and tinted gloss on the lips, and you're set! Want to spice it up even more? Colored mascara is perfect for you, swipe a few coats to match your funky skirt, and you're ready to go!

Mostly C's
Mostly C's - Your holiday style is adventurous. You like to create gifts with your imagination and try new things and travel to destinations unknown. You need a look just as imaginative and creative as you are. Winter lace is bold, but elegant, and you can rock it easily. Give your hair a windswept style and wear a bold, red lip. This look is simple, yet exciting, and you can personalize it in more ways than one! Pair faux leather with your lace or add a glittering purse for more adventure.

Mostly D's
Mostly D's - Your holiday style is glamourous. You love the shopping and hustle and bustle of the holidays, and this is your time to shine. The first four letters in glamourous spell glam, and that's a great way to show your holiday spirit! Wear a glitzy, glam dress, and you can keep the rest of your look minimal. Simple black heels, a nude clutch, and a smokey eye are perfect complements to the dress. Create a smokey eye, swipe on a bit of mascara, and you're set for the night!

You don't have to be adventurous to rock a red lip, or chill to wear your favorite sweater. Match up these ideas with your personality, and what you think is fun, and look great for the holidays, which are just around the corner!

Happy 6 Month Anniversary, Readers.

Hello, my lovelies! Can you believe it? Last night marked the 6 month anniversary (183 days because it's a leap year) of Aisles of Beauty's first post! Remember? I told that story about Mother Nature and color and makeup? Read the story hereAisles of Beauty has really grown since then, huh? I remember when I was 12 and just wanting to start a beauty blog... I wasn't sure what I'd do... So I just dove right in. And here I am, with posts recognized all over the world, linked by other sites (I love when that happens), with my official Youtube Channel released and starting partnerships and guest posts and... Wow. It's been a pretty successful six months.

Did you know 6 is my lucky number?

I'd like you all to know that no matter how many times I get writer's block, or how many times something goes wrong with this old Macbook, I still love you guys. You're the best reader's a teen blogger like myself could ever dream of, and just keep reading. Keep sharing my blog with your friends and sending me emails and giving me ideas. And I'll keep posting and making videos and taking pictures and buying products to review.

Cheers to another six months!

Reader's Look: Blue Hair

Maya from Mexico dyed her hair blue in honor of me! I love this girl!
Hello, my lovelies! This weekend has been particularly irritating, because after two amazing nights of The Curious Savage, karma just had to catch up with me and break my computer. I didn't spill anything this time, it just won't let me log into my account! But I had to write an essay for Spanish, so we pulled some strings and here I am on my mother's computer, blogging to you about the highlight of my weekend since Friday.

Today I received the most amazing email from a loyal reader in Mexico named Maya. Talk about Universal Beauty. =) Technically, I already know her personally... She's my Secret Twin! We have the same birthday, June 10, and we keep in touch. Here's the email:
Well Secret Twin!
As you know, I die my streaks quite often! I've had them purple, teal, pink, blonde, and then I died them back to brown for a while. But I got bored with that, and I decided I wanted to die them again. So, in honour of my Secret Twin's debut with blue hair, that's the color I picked for mine as well! How did your play go, anywayz? Are you going to post it on your bloggity blog blog?
Yup. Check out her gorgeous blue locks in honor of my dyeing MY hair blue for the play! Love you Maya! {Want to email me your pics? aislesofbeauty@gmail.com!}

Fall/Halloween Nails

Fall Leaves in Halloween Colors! 2-for-1 bonus!
Hello, my lovelies! How's Hurricane Sandy treating you? School's out for the day (precautionary purposes), and I'm spending the day prepping for a BIG SURPRISE for all you wonderful readers, something I know you've been waiting for a long time. Feel free to let the mystery drive you crazy. =)

Whether you're out of school or not, I decided to start up the week with some Halloween themed nail art. I personally hate Halloween and all the scares that come with it, but it's a great time for costumes, candy, and nail art! So, I combined the beauty of fall leaves with the colors of Halloween to make a 2-for-1 special!

All you have to do is paint your nails like you regularly would with orange polish, then with a detailing brush (or a toothpick), use black nail polish to create the veins of the leaves. Simple, right? Let me know what you think, and send me your nail art to aislesofbeauty@gmail.com.

Writer's Block

Picture me as the horrifying zombie on the left.
Hello, my lovelies! I've posted enough times for you to know somehow, every time my blog reaches its peak of prosperity, karma catches up to me and everything comes crashing down.

And it's always lack of inspiration. A beauty blogger has unlimited sources. I can write about anything. But blogging about a new product I've never even seen is what I call a filler post; and I don't want to cram your minds with filler posts. Me complaining about filler posts is a filler post all on its own! Oy, now my head hurts.

But you know it takes a pot of gold at the other end of a rainbow to pull me out of writer's block. And before the rainbow even gets here in the first place, it has to rain. I haven't even been answering emails, I don't know how to reply to those anymore! So what shall I do to avoid a useless filler post while waiting for my writer's block to clear? For now, read some old posts you might have missed, and tune in tomorrow for a big surprise! Don't worry, it's the good kind. =)

How to Create Marble Nails

I made a collage of all types of marble nail looks!
Hello, my lovelies! In addition to researching great DIY Spa Ideas, my youngest sister Ava learned how to create Marble Nails. Usually, I don't pay much attention to the latest nail trends, because I have the terrible habit of biting my nails, and I've never really been able to do much with my nails because of that. But Ava has long, gorgeous nails, and so I took pictures of her attempting Marble Nails, and made a photo tutorial for you so you can try it too!

You will need: a small bowl, 2-3 nail polish colors, tape, and tissues/paper towels.

*** We only tried this with two nails/one at a time. The first nail is the one you see in the pictures. The second time didn't turn out so well, so we came to the conclusion you have to use fresh water/paint every time. Maybe you can dip multiple nails in at one time, but we're not sure. So let us know if you find out more!

Universal Beauty: Mexico

Symbol on the Mexican Flag
Hola, my lovelies! A few days ago, I got the wonderful opportunity to talk to one of Aisles of Beauty's most loyal readers: Summer from Mexico.

Summer, who is 11 years old, moved to Mexico from the states last year. She is part of the inspiration for Universal Beauty, and is therefore the first reader I thought to interview. She wrote a fantastic journal entry for all of you to read about the fashion and beauty scene in Mexico City.

With our new PDF sharing technology, you can read Summer's journal entry right here on the post! Just read, and scroll down over the entry to read the next page. You can also zoom in and out to make the text bigger and smaller. Enjoy!

And remember, if you want to be a part of Universal Beauty too, just email Aisles of Beauty! Aislesofbeauty@gmail.com with subject Universal Beauty. Include your name, age, where you're from, and why you think your entry would be interesting and unique.

Updating Our Wardrobe

A screenshot of our new look! Recognize it?
Hello, my lovelies! You know those days when you realize how drab your wardrobe is? Limited colors, styles, etc. Well, I felt that way about Aisles of Beauty's wardrobe, actually, I've been feeling that way for a while.

I finally got up the nerve to look for a fresh, new look for Aisles of Beauty, and I found it! All day I've been working on the site so you can adjust to the new, and improved, Aisles of Beauty.

Ouch!

I'm left-handed.
Hello, my lovelies! Would you like to hear a story? A girl's mother told her to take the puppies' dog food outside. With two little chicken legs in her right hand, she walked outside of her kitchen and onto the damp concrete. She closed the kitchen door behind her, or tried... But her hand didn't escape in time, and her middle finger was hit––hard.

Long story short I cant really use my left hand.

So, please enjoy a little collage of pictures I found on Tumblr. Hugs and band-aids kisses!

Michelle Phan's Short Stories

Hello, my lovelies! If you're reading this it means I am at my sleepover with one of my closest friends, and I could not find time to blog this morning. But I couldn't possibly leave you hanging (I'm on a role with this blogging everyday thing), and so I decided to share with you one of my favorite short films.

Michelle Phan, beauty blogger extraordinaire, besides creating amazing tutorials on Youtube, also directs and stars in short films... Most often love stories. This one is called Underneath Your Love, and is an inspiring love story for all who see it. It's 22 minutes long, and it beats watching cartoons.

This shall keep you plenty busy, but don't worry, I will be back soon! So pop some popcorn, get cozy, and play it on full screen. You'll love it, I promise!

Raving About... Teen Choice Awards 2012

Teen Choice Awards 2012
Because my social life has been lacking, I was home alone on Sunday night eating ice cream and watching the Teen Choice Awards 2012. But, I suppose that grants me a beauty blogging opportunity. =)

So... On photocollage.net, I created a little collage of my favorite looks from the Teen Choice Awards. Though my absolute favorite was Lea Michele's silver Versace mini dress. How adorable! Also ranking in my favorites... Nina Dobrev's very angular, constructed dress... Ooh! And Ashley Rickard's yellow dress with black lace as well. Everyone seems to love Selena Gomez's little pink number, and Cymphonique looked pretty fantastic as always. :)

Here's my collage, and you can make your own on photocollage.net! If you send it in, I can post it on Aisles of Beauty! I seem to really love collages, whether they're online or on poster board (made any mood boards lately?).

My Personal Rainbow

My Personal Rainbow Mood Board. Took about 2 1/2 hours.
Michelle Phan, an expert beauty blogger, has been hosting a Lip Color War on her website, MichellePhan.com. It got me thinking about all the different lip colors, and then color in general. I'm sure you've seen on TV or have read online or in magazines how some colors bring out your eyes, and others highlight your complexion, and so on and so forth. So I thought, hmmm, picking out which colors look best on you is like making your own personal rainbow. BA-BAM. Genius idea.

Personal Rainbow n. A unique variety of colors selected as the best colors to apply to the face or wear on the body of a specific person.

I've realized every girl should have their own personal rainbow, a group colors that generates confidence, and makes you look and feel great. So what to do on another rainy day? I made another mood board (and if you don't know what that is, or you don't know how to make one, click here). Here's how I created my personal rainbow, and how you can create your own:

Creating My Personal Rainbow:

  1. First, I went on the internet and simply Googled, "What is my skin tone?" On Seventeen Magazine's website and more, they might offer a quiz or straight up tell you how to figure out your skin tone. I found out mine is a Warm Olive. I took screen shots of my information and printed them to put on my mood board.... Or vision board... or beauty board... or whatever you call it!
  2. With my new information on my skin tone and what my compatible colors were, I searched through magazines finding all my compatible colors. I also printed out some pictures of myself to add a personal touch to the mood board.
  3. With my magazine cutouts and printouts, I began arranging. It was like a puzzle, but eventually, everything fit.
  4. To hold it down, for the very first time, I used tape. I know, crazy, right? But it looked great! The tape was slightly visible, but it gave the board a scrapbook style look.
My personal rainbow includes:
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Peach
  • Coral
  • Gold
  • Beige
  • Brown
  • Gray
Of course, I'm not limited to these colors as of today... My personal rainbow just includes the colors that look best on me, for future reference I suppose.

Now it's your turn. Find out if you have a warm or cool skin tone, and create your Personal Rainbow!

Loving Rainbows,
Autumn

Entering the Crazy, Colorful World of Makeup

World of Color - Disney World
I'd like to open this blog with a story every artist must hear... And it all begins on one dull day in the beginning of time. Young Mother Nature was sitting around, quite bored indeed. There was nothing to do, nothing to see. She decided to draw little doodles on our planet, which at the time, was just a blank canvas. A few plots of land and sea here and there, that's all. She sketched beautiful mountains, and canyons, and forests, and made the sun rise and set each morning and every evening with a little flipbook animation. But something was missing. Something to complete her painting. Young Mother Nature played around with a few ideas for a bit, and soon enough, created color. Vibrant reds, rich blue hues, shades of pink and purple, oranges, greens, and yellows. Some dark, some light. Some faint and shy, while others burst into the senses.

Mother Nature swirled colors into the sky and below the surface. Eventually, humans learned to take these colors and make even more beauty out of them. Clothing, art, even food were given beautiful tints and hues. And finally, we created makeup. A way to put these colors on our bodies and make living art. A way to enhance the beauty we were born with, and give our faces a much deeper purpose. Expression. Creativity. The possibilities are endless!

Ever since it's creation, the crazy, colorful world of makeup has grown more and more complex as time has gone by. Now there's dozens of brands, scents, and ways to add color to your face. There are intricacies as far as what brush to "paint" with, what pigment looks best, what mood and theme you want to portray. Your own face is your canvas, and it is a canvas you will grow to know so well, the most beautiful of artwork will come from it.

This beauty rant has a purpose, believe it or not. This is a folktale that has inspired the creation of Aisles of Beauty. The Aisles of Beauty is a spinoff of your traditional beauty blog. It's not made for 18-45 year olds looking for the best concealer or wrinkle reducing night cream. This beauty blog is designed specifically for preteens looking for guidance in the wonderful world of makeup. There are questions to be answered, mysteries to be solved, and stories to share, so what better place to do so than here? Welcome to the Aisles of Beauty!

Your Dedicated Blogger and Future BFFL,

Autumn =)
