Latest Obsession: NYC Show Time Volumizing Mascara

NYC Showime Volumizing Mascara in Extreme Black
Aisles of Beauty's Latest Obsession: NYC Show Time Volumizing Mascara!

My mother uncharacteristically had us leave home early for an appointment, and with the extra time, we stopped at CVS so my mother could get some cleaning supplies. I lingered in its colossal cosmetics area, searching for a new mascara, because my previous one had recently run out.

An entire wall of L'Oreal products was tempting, but overpriced. Over the months since I first became somewhat obsessed with makeup and the artistic outlet it provided, I have learned not to splurge on mascara. It's a waste of money!

So for $3.99 at CVS, I bought this great Showtime Volumizing Mascara by New York Color in Extreme Black. I haven't jumped on the bandwagon for colored mascara yet, so this chic jet black is perfect for me. It claims to give me up to 13x fuller lashes... So with continued use we'll see if that happens!

Pros: I love the wand. It's long and slender, and the bristles work wonders. The lashes are separated so well, and so quickly, I don't feel like I'm spending hours trying to separate my lashes sufficiently. Plus, this mascara is packed with Panthenol and Vitamin E to strengthen my lashes and keep them soft and supple. I love soft lashes. This mascara dries quickly, and once it's dry, it's hard to smudge. If I get wet, the mascara doesn't run as much as my old one did. I really had to splash my face to finally get some grayish liquid running down my face.

Cons: Even though it takes some effort, this mascara is not waterproof, and since it's summer, that would have been a nice bonus. I personally wish the formula could have come on just a bit thicker... At first I wasn't sure if mascara was actually getting onto my lashes at all. But I'll get over that eventually when the volumizer kicks in.

Cost: $3.99 at CVS: The price may vary depending on where you are, but I got this mascara fairly cheap, which is good, because like I said before, it's a waste to splurge on mascara. So all these benefits for just about $4. Sounds great to me!

Spelling Bees in Wonderland... The Crazy Things I Dream About

The Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland
As you all may know, I was supposed to release the trailer for The Toolbox Trilogy this past Friday. As you can see, that didn't happen. I had a very busy Friday, and then Saturday I had a party to attend, and then Sunday was Father's Day. (Happy Father's Day to all those great dads out there!)

So on Sunday I told myself bright and early Monday morning I would post the trailer I neglected to release, wait a few days, and then post the first edition of the Toolbox Trilogy. The plan was all ready to go!  But last night I had the weirdest dream...

I was at the National Spelling Bee, in a cute little sea foam green dress with beige heels. I spelled a bunch of big words like conscientious and prestidigitation... But when I made it to the final two, I got the word cheshire. In my dream, I giggled and asked, "As in the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland?" The word lady said yes, and I began spelling it, only to realize I wasn't sure how.

Vintageortacky.com
I woke up, and immediately jumped on my computer to look up how to spell Cheshire. I learned it, and clicked on Google Images to waste some time. That's when I found this image. Could it be? I clicked on the picture and it directed me to the website of its origin. A beauty blog called Vintage or Tacky run by a super cool girl named Cora, with a full tutorial on how to create the look! I watched the whole video, and I was inspired.

So I scrapped the old Toolbox Trilogy completely, and today I'll be filming the new one, which is sure to be ten times better!

If you'd like to watch this tutorial, here's the link: http://vintageortacky.com/2010/01/16/cheshire-cat/

I've seen the whole thing, and I rate it I for Intermediate Level. I'll try to make a shorter (the original is 15 minutes), less awkward (she rambles a bit) version that might be easier to understand for preteen levels. Until then, happy dreaming!

My Personal Rainbow

My Personal Rainbow Mood Board. Took about 2 1/2 hours.
Michelle Phan, an expert beauty blogger, has been hosting a Lip Color War on her website, MichellePhan.com. It got me thinking about all the different lip colors, and then color in general. I'm sure you've seen on TV or have read online or in magazines how some colors bring out your eyes, and others highlight your complexion, and so on and so forth. So I thought, hmmm, picking out which colors look best on you is like making your own personal rainbow. BA-BAM. Genius idea.

Personal Rainbow n. A unique variety of colors selected as the best colors to apply to the face or wear on the body of a specific person.

I've realized every girl should have their own personal rainbow, a group colors that generates confidence, and makes you look and feel great. So what to do on another rainy day? I made another mood board (and if you don't know what that is, or you don't know how to make one, click here). Here's how I created my personal rainbow, and how you can create your own:

Creating My Personal Rainbow:

  1. First, I went on the internet and simply Googled, "What is my skin tone?" On Seventeen Magazine's website and more, they might offer a quiz or straight up tell you how to figure out your skin tone. I found out mine is a Warm Olive. I took screen shots of my information and printed them to put on my mood board.... Or vision board... or beauty board... or whatever you call it!
  2. With my new information on my skin tone and what my compatible colors were, I searched through magazines finding all my compatible colors. I also printed out some pictures of myself to add a personal touch to the mood board.
  3. With my magazine cutouts and printouts, I began arranging. It was like a puzzle, but eventually, everything fit.
  4. To hold it down, for the very first time, I used tape. I know, crazy, right? But it looked great! The tape was slightly visible, but it gave the board a scrapbook style look.
My personal rainbow includes:
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Peach
  • Coral
  • Gold
  • Beige
  • Brown
  • Gray
Of course, I'm not limited to these colors as of today... My personal rainbow just includes the colors that look best on me, for future reference I suppose.

Now it's your turn. Find out if you have a warm or cool skin tone, and create your Personal Rainbow!

Loving Rainbows,
Autumn

Beautiful People

So much makeup, so little time!
I check onto Aisles of Beauty today to see if I got one or two more page views since I last posted on Sunday.

My page views have doubled. I know for sure now there are real people reading my blog all over the country! And I have to say, I'm flipping out. I'd like to thank all you Beautiful People for reading my blog!

I don't remember my settings for comments, but try to comment anyway, and tell me what you think of the blog! What do you love? What do you hate? I'll take all the criticism and try to improve Aisles of Beauty. And if you love everything... Well, even better! So while I'm waiting for some response, I thought I should update you on what's going on.

The Toolbox Trilogy: I know you've been anxiously awaiting the first edition of the Toolbox Trilogy (or not). The launch date will be released this Friday along with a thrilling trailer, so make sure to come back then!

My Birthday: I got lots of dinero for my birthday, so expect a "Beauty Haul" post to come along soon after an expected shopping spree... :-)

Summertime: My summer goal is to post an entry everyday. Now that I have the time (school's out!), I should be able to post everyday, rather than every 2 or 3 days. Wish me luck!

Thanks again to all the Beautiful People reading my blog!

XOXO,
Autumn :)

Thirteen Questions with Autumn Angelettie

Guess who's birthday it is!

Happy Birthday to Me,

Happy Birthday to Me,

Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday,

I just turned thirteen!

This morning I set my alarm for 6:45 AM, got dolled up, and counted down. At exactly 7:22 AM on June 10, I turned a year older! Happy Birthday to ME!

To celebrate, please enjoy 13 questions with Autumn Angelettie, a special interview with me!

1. Do you speak any languages besides English?

Hablo un poco Español, porque tengo la clase de Español en mi escuela. Necesito saber Español porque cuando voy a Puerto Rico con mi familia, necesitamos una persona que hablar Español. Mi familia no saben hablar Español.

2. Who's your favorite fashion designer?

For purses and luggage, I love Louis Vuitton. In the jewelry department, Tiffany is amazing. For clothes, though, I can't choose just one designer!

3. We've heard you love zebra print. How much do you own?

Let's see... A large blanket, and small blanket, a pillowcase, a backpack, a beanbag chair, a pillow, two purses, a messenger bag, a pair of ballet flats, a jewelry box, an American Girl Doll dress, a scarf, two headbands, and my iPhone case. I think that's it...

4. What are you watching Sunday nights at 8?

I used to watch Once Upon a Time on ABC, but the season ended, so I've come crawling back to Jerseylicious on the Style Network.

5. What's your most unique quality?

I'm not sure how unique it is, but I've never met anyone with it. I don't get embarrassed. I can be as loud and crazy as I want, and you can call me all types of names, but I don't get embarrassed. I used to, but somehow I've fallen off my rocker hard enough that I just don't feel it. Is that normal?

6. What are you reading right now?

Seventeen Magazine... Just kidding! I'm actually in between books. I just finished Divergent by Veronica Roth. Can't wait to get the sequel!

7. Describe your last dream.

I was with one of my friends and some tall blonde girl I don't know. We were running down the hallway and my science teacher yells at us to slow down. We don't, and she makes us sit against the wall in the hallway. The two girls I'm with try to sneak out, but my science teacher catches them and then we all have to wash her car. I wake up.

8. What's your biggest pet peeve?

My pet peeves change. Right now it's when people assume I hate Harry Potter. I love Harry Potter. I am not a muggle, I got my letter for Hogwarts yesterday! Pfft, I wish.

9. Where is your dream vacation?

I hate camping, so that's out. I'd love to go to Italy; that would be a beautiful vacation!

10. What's your favorite food?

Arroz con pollo with plantains on the side. I'm so hispanic, haha!

11. Would you ever go on a bridal TV show?

Never! My wedding is an exclusive event; invitation only! I would hate to have my gathering of family and friends broadcast on television! Even if I do win a dream honeymoon! But don't get me wrong; I LOVE Say Yes to the Dress, and Four Weddings and Who's Wedding Is it Anyway? I'd much rather watch all those other people plan their weddings. :)

12. What are your plans in the future?

This summer: Film camp, the beach, Puerto Rico, and the pool.
Somewhat near future: Getting the leads in my school's productions yet again; making honor roll yet again; and maybe doing yearbook or newspaper next year? Perhaps Creative Writing... Or Playwrights!
Distant future: College; I'll be a part of the entertainment industry. Maybe I'll be the next Oprah!

13. What advice do you have for middle schoolers reading your blog today?

Don't use makeup to hide your flaws. Use makeup to embrace them. Radiate confidence with who you are. I'm never teased because people know it won't affect me (and I'm too nice to everyone; no one hates me). Even if I'm feeling a little insecure at times, I don't let it show, because if you convince yourself you love who you are, it will become true.

Latest Obsession: Korres Guava Lip Butter

Korres Guava Lip Butter
Aisles of Beauty's Latest Obsession: Korres Guava Lip Butter.

It is statistically proven that one of the first traits a person notices when meeting you is your lips, and you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

I am a victim of severe dry lips. They dry up fast, and when they do, they get extremely dry. It is uncomfortable and unappealing. My mother got me this lip butter in hopes it would make my problems a bit better.

Korres sells all natural products. This lip butter was made with shea butter and Rice wax.

Pros: Korres Guava Lip Butter is luscious and creamy. It evenly applies onto my lips, and leaves them soft, smooth, and hungry for more. It smells delicious, but is flavorless. (I don't know about you, but I can't stand flavored lip balms.)

Cons: It comes in a tub, which can be handy on some occasions... But on others, not so much. It leaves a whitish film over your lips, which I don't really mind, but other people might. It goes away if you plan on applying lipstick over it. And it goes fast. I've only had it for a day and have already made a dent in it; Partly because I love it, though.

Cost: $10 - $12 –– In no way is this stuff cheap, but I think it's worth the cash. It's important to have a great lip balm that will keep your lips healthy and soft. The all natural ingredients adds to the price, but is a great bonus for your lips!
